A River Runs Through It" and "Into the Wild"

This is the view North from our deck. I wanted to post one before the leaves are on the the trees. I am really going to miss the river and beautiful view from our home. I didn't include the TMI towers in this picture because everyone goes crazy when they see them. I am completely used to looking at them so when I look out on a beautiful day they just aren't there.

Here's a picture from my Gallery showing the towers at sunrise. I'll post some other shots I took another day.

We've often thought they should cover them in the Chia pet stuff and they'd look like giant bush sculptures.

Now on to "INTO THE WILD"

I saw this at a friends house last night (she's got one of those 52" Plasma Screens and a theatre room, pretty cool). I'd wanted to see it at the theatre when it was out and missed it. (So many movies, so little time.)

This movie is Directed by Sean Penn. Emile Hirsch, Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, Vince Vaughn, Hal Holbrook and Catherine Keener are all in it. (For those of you familiar with these actors). It's based on a true story about a young man named Christopher McCandless who abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. He was a top student at Emory University. In the end he is unprepared for Alaska and dies from starvation.

It's a very powerful film. The cinematography is gorgeous and this "Emile Hirsh" who I've never heard of did a great acting job. Christopher McCandless clearly had some kind of schizophrenia or Obessive Compulsive disorder that eventually took control of him. He had a deep hatred towards his parents that I found unfair. They were disfunctional and a mess, but they were together and loved him. It's a very sad story. The movie itself is not sad and it's amazing to follow him on his travels through the West, into Mexico and then eventually to Alaska.

 Hoarding and fairies.

Yesterday I took off work and spent the day (which was beautiful) cleaning out the garage with my husband. It's amazing what one can accumulate. Ironically, when we called it quits and went inside to make dinner I put on Oprah and she had some couple who had hoarded about 15 tons of stuff. My mom lived through the depression and has a tendency to horde. I've got a tendency to keep too much stuff. I'm overwhelmed with all the sorting and pitching we need to do in order to move this summer. I wish there was an easier way. By the way, that is not a picture of my stuff, just something I found online. It feels like I have that much to go through.

Last evening my girlfriends and I saw The Spiderwick Chronicles. We didn't know anything about the movie. It was playing at our favorite $3.00 theatre, next to our favorite Irish Bar. We enjoyed the film. It's a family movie and lots of people had very small children watching it. Small children are getting so desensitized. It's full of goblins, ogres, etc. These little toddlers weren't even frightened. We adults were jumping in our seats. The movie is entertaining. I'm partial to fairies.

 "HEIMA" by SIGUR ROS

Last night my husband I went to see an Indie film at the Imax theatre. Sigur Ros is a band from Iceland. In 2006, after much success abroad, they went home to Iceland to "give back" to their country. They went on an announced tour to the far reaches of Iceland and put on free concerts for the community, ending with a big show in Rejkavik. This was a documentary of the tour.

Most everyone is familiar with Bjork from Iceland, but this band we were not familiar with. I found the music to be kind of new age, certainly a distinct sound of their own. The theatre was sold out which for some reason surprised me. I may not be as in touch with young people as I think I am.

In 2002 my husband and I went to Iceland for a weeks vacation. It was March and cold as expected. We were scheduled during the week to go dog sledding. They didn't have any snow!! This was the first time in 30 years they didn't have enough snow in March to do it. (Global Warming???) Within minutes of arrival we noticed how beautiful the people were. Everyone looked healthy and vibrant. No one was overweight. We felt like we stood out like sore thumbs with our group of Americans. They all speak English as well as several languages. The geographical wonders are magnificent. I would love to go back in June sometime when the moss is colorful and the flowers are in bloom. Because it's volcanic the whole country is heated geothermally. We went to the famous Blue Lagoon. It's worth the trip over just to experience it. Swimming and jogging are favorite pastimes. There's practically no crime. As one young girl told us "It's an island, were would you go to get away?"

I could go on and on but hubby is waiting for me to go shopping for window blinds for the new house so I must end. Maybe I'll expand on this later. Have a nice day everyone.
